“What I’ve needed whenever I step onto the court is to give it my all. When I’m not giving it my all, when I’m in second gear, everything is much harder.”
– Carlos Alcaraz
Attitude and Action
The simplest way I know to be elite is by attitude and action. You need a winning attitude (your mental game), and you must take action (your habits). Attitude is how you feel about doing something. Action is the steps you take. They are both choices.
Choose your attitude. Choose your actions. The outcome will be a result of your attitude and actions.
You Need More Fuel
There’s a good chance you’re not performing your best because you aren’t eating and drinking enough at the correct times. Nutrition is critical for both your mental and physical abilities. Proper nutrition provides the energy needed for endurance, power, and focus, while also supporting recovery, muscle repair, and immune function. Hydration is vital. Just a 2% drop in hydration can impair cognitive function, increase fatigue, and raise the risk of cramps or injury.
What you ate and drank in the past 2–7 days is what most directly fuels your performance today.
You Look Elite
Being dressed for success is a real factor in sports. Your hygiene, fashion, and other aspects of your personal appearance send a message about how you feel about yourself on the inside. When you take pride in your appearance, you carry yourself with confidence. All the benefits that come with confidence will carry over into your performance. If you find yourself slacking in your appearance, this may indicate that your mental performance is declining.
Look elite, act elite, play elite. And don’t forget that smile.
